With an education and training background that spans from Harvard University to Cambridge, Cornell and Dartmouth, Board-certified dermatologist, Joyce Imahiyerobo-Ip, MD knows a thing or two about skin.

Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip is an expert in cosmetic, surgical, and medical dermatology, with areas of focus that include injectable fillers, laser treatments, chemical peels, acne, hair loss, scalp disorders, and skin cancer detection.After receiving her medical degree from Cornell University’s Weill Medical College, Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip completed specialized training in dermatology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

These days you can find Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip at her office in Wellesley, Massachusetts providing comprehensive, cutting-edge care to patients of all ages and skin types. Her moto is “radiate beauty from the inside out” and holds true to that with skincare tips on her blog and Instagram that focus on the complete health and wellness of the skin.

Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip has been broadly published within the field of dermatology on topics ranging from advanced techniques for management of acne to surgical treatments for skin cancer. Luckily for us, she is also heavily featured in publications including InStyle, Shape, New Beauty, Byrdie, Marie Clair, Good Houskeeping, O Magazine, Women’s Health, and Yahoo! Lifestyle.

We caught up with Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip to learn more about her and her take on skincare and beauty.

How would you describe yourself? 

I prefer the simple life. I love simple, classic, beautiful pieces of art, of music, of food, of clothing. I am not into following what’s trendy. If given the choice I will also opt for the “timeless” option. When it comes to medicine, I would describe myself as compassionate and cutting-edge. And when it comes to motherhood, I could best be described as a cuddly “tiger mom.”  I want my children to have a thirst for learning and an appreciation of the simple pleasures of life.

How long have you been in the beauty industry? 

10 years.

How do you feel about beauty?

My mantra is … you may not be pretty, you are most certainly beautiful. Beautiful is about what’s within. We radiate beauty from the inside out. The better things are for me on the inside, the more beautiful I feel on the outside.

Who is your beauty muse?

Sade, the musician.

If you were a combination of any three beauty icons who would they be?

CoCo Chanel, Iman, and Michelle Obama.

A beauty rule you wish would go away?

Using toners. They are useless

What is your current skin care obsession?

Antioxidants! These powerful cancer-fighting molecules work wonders for your entire body and your skin. I eat food reach in anti-oxidants like berries, and leafy greens, and I put antioxidant rich serums on by face twice a day.

What are three beauty items you can’t live without?

My gentle cleanser, my topical retinoid, and my antioxidant serum.

What’s in your beauty regimen that we would be surprised to know about?

I have acne… although I am in my late 30s, so I use acne medicine twice a day along with my anti-aging products.

A beauty habit you need to give up or be better at?

I need to be better at washing my makeup brushes weekly! I am terrible at that.

Lipstick of choice?

Fire engine red.

What is your walk-in song?

“Golden” by Jill Scott.

Who would you like to introduce you for your most important keynote speech?

Michelle Obama or Oprah.

What’s most important to you? My family. I am everything that I am because they love me.

Three people you would like to have over for a dinner party?

Barrack Obama, Queen Elizabeth, and the Dalai Lama.

Do you have a nick-name?  

I have many nick-names. I have 5 siblings who call me a variety of things… I am known as “Joycey”, “J”, “Queen”, “Joy” and “Jane”.

What are you most proud of as a founder?

I am most proud of conquering my fear of failure.  I have a type A personality and usually only embark on endeavors at which I know I can excel. Starting my blog and now my practice required me to take a huge leap of faith.

What does family mean to you?

Family means love and sacrifice.     

Who’s a skin care professional you can’t live without? 

My dermatologist, of course!

How do you relax?

I LOVE LOVE to cuddle. Curling up with my kids or my hubby puts me in immediate relaxation mode.

What does natural mean to you?

Natural means many, many things to me. When it comes to personal qualities, natural means being your most authentic self. Natural also means being one with things of the earth.

What are three things you can’t live without?  

God, Family, Music.

You are Beautiful and Perfect Just the Way You Are.
